Nonbinary Name List

These are names used and/or coined by nonbinary people in English speaking countries, primarily the USA. This list is not complete. Origins are noted where known. Most of these names are also words you can find in an English dictionary or online. It is recommended to look them up before naming yourself or someone else if the name meaning is important to you.

Cultural Notes: “Nonbinary” is not the same as “gender neutral.” Also, nonbinary people can and do use traditionally masculine, feminine, androgynous, or gender neutral names. Those are easy to find on other lists and thus are not listed here. Nonbinary people who use those names are still nonbinary. And, finally: This is written from a Western perspective on gender. In many other cultures, words like “nonbinary” and “transgender” break because they don’t make sense with how gender is defined there.
